10 ways to prioritise sustainability at your hen party

If you want to prioritise sustainability at your hen party there are many small ways to do so.

Whether you want to reduce plastic, tackle your emissions or save money, opting for a sustainable approach is never a bad idea.

So why not give it a try?

Here are 10 ways to bring sustainable ideas to your hen do.

  1. Opt for eco alternatives to single use plastic

One of the best things you can do for hen party sustainability is cut down or, if you can, ditch the single use plastics.

This is especially true when it comes to accessories from willy straws and other hen party paraphernalia to plastic cups and flimsy decorations.

There are plenty of eco alternatives out there, from paper bags and garlands to personalised, reusable metal accessories such as plates and straws.

While they won't be exactly the same as the traditional plastic versions, these planet conscious party bits don´t cost the earth.

2. Shop secondhand

Fancy a new frock or two for the weekend? It can be tempting to hit the highstreet in search of a cheap deal.

While, don´t get us wrong, we love a good shopping spree, there are some seriously good second hand deals to be had and gems to find.

Whether you like to scour your local charity shops, attend a clothes sale or browse online on some of the best second hand fashion apps like vinted and depop, finding preloved party wear has never been easier.

Plus you´re likely to spend half the price and find something really unique!

3. Try some online activities

Think online activities like workshops, classes and talks we´re a thing of the ´shudder´ covid era?

Think again! There are so many creatives, thinkers and influencers hosting online events for national, if not global audiences to enjoy.

Maybe your group is into a niche interest, or your favourite insta content creator is hosting an event to share their expertise.

Whether it's fashion, food, fitness or anything else that floats your boat, online events and activities are an awesome way to get involved.

We especially love this idea for including your nearest and dearest who can't make the in person celebrations.

4. Drink sustainable spirits

Yes the tide of sustainable possibilities has even reached our alcohol consuming activities.

And we are so here for it.

Got a taste for it? We´ve got the flavour in our tipsy take on sustainable spirits!

5. Volunteer for a charity

Whether you´re a regular volunteer or a complete newbie, a little help goes a long way.

And what more perfect time to harness the power of group effort than as part of your hen do.

Volunteering is a wonderful compliment to other hen party activities of your choice that gives you a warm fuzzy feeling while you do some good for someone else!

There are so many volunteering opportunities all around the country, so head to our volunteering page to find out how you can be the best hens with heart!

6. Give eco friendly party favours

Everyone loves a party bag! But instead of plastic wrapped titbits, why not curate a pack of eco-friendly party favours that can be enjoyed over and over again.

From reusable eco straws, to wild flower seed bombs, say thanks for coming with a gift that gives back.

7. Borrow and lend

You may be in the midst of a period where everyone you know seems to be getting married or attending hen parties.

This means that people may have left over decorations and other bits that you can repurpose and reuse!

Similarly, share clothes and accessories with your besties when planning your outfits for the hen.

8. Go glamping

The idea of outdoorsy activities may strike fear into the hearts of your hens.

But what about when the great outdoors is paired with chic lodgings, gorgeous views and luxurious pamper spots.

There are some seriously stylish glamping experiences available to hens that are a far cry from your old ideas of camping.

Share some rustic moments with your hens - how better to treat your bride with a glass of bubbles, sharing memories around the campfire!

9. Share lifts or use public transport

Speaking of getting away, why not get together to share lifts to your hen party events and activities.

Not only is it economic for fewer people to drive, it saves fuel and reduces carbon emissions.

Stick on the tunes and get on the road!

Not driving? Jump on a train, bus or BlaBlaCar!

10. Reduce plastic packaging

If you’re food shopping for a hen party weekend try to choose options that have minimal plastic packaging.

This can be helped by buying organic at local stores rather than big supermarkets.

Take care to avoid excessively packaged foods and other essentials like decorations and party favours that you bring to the party.

We live in a world where plastic is everywhere, so just do your best and know that whatever you can do is awesome!
