Donate Leftover Food
Have you ever looked around at the end of a hen weekend and wondered: “Why did we think we needed 12 loaves of bread?!” Yeah, us too.
It’s difficult to know how to cater for large groups but it’s also important to make sure everyone is well-fed, and inevitably this can lead to food and drinks being left over. Perhaps everyone can divide up the leftovers and take them home, but sometimes that isn’t possible. We’ve got some suggestions for what you can do to ensure they don’t go to waste.
The Trussell Trust is a charity that works to stop hunger in the UK. Their Food Bank Finder makes it easy for you to locate a place to donate. You can also use Olio, the food sharing app, where you can list your left over food for someone else to collect. Read on below for how to pass on what’s left over from your hen party…
Where to donate leftover food from a hen party:
Look up your most convenient food bank, or download the Olio app.
Check the guidelines for what kind of food you can donate - this can vary per food bank. Un-opened, non-perishable food is most widely accepted, but some food banks accept fresh food too. Check with the food bank you’re going to donate to.
If you’re going to list the food on Olio, it’s much more flexible, as long as it’s before the ‘Use By’ date. Check the guidelines on the Olio website for what you can and can’t share.
Organise within the hen party who will drop the food off, or be responsible for Olio collections from their house.
The guidelines around donating alcohol are much more strict, so please check carefully - but we doubt you’ll have any of that left over anyway ;)
