3 ways your hen party can support charities from anywhere

There are many charities that you can support, regardless of where you are in the country.

These nationwide charities are great for hens who want to help but can't necessarily give in person volunteering time or travel to a destination.

Instead, you can help online, via post and through organising collections.

Thanks to this, it couldn't be easier to incorporate some feel good activities that give back in your celebrations.

Adding as little as £5 each to your hen party budget can go a long way- and that’s only about 2% of an average hen party cost!

We’ve put together a guide to some of our favourite nationwide charities for hens to inspire you!

Volunteer remotely

Not all hens find themselves in the same place at the same time, and have many different commitments before the hen party.

If you want to volunteer your skills, time or support but can’t commit to being in a certain place, remote volunteering is a great option.

It allows you and other hens to support meaningful causes in a way that's easy and accessible for all.

There are some great charities offering remote volunteering opportunities around the UK.

Here are a few that we’ve partnered with.

Bookmark

Bookmark is a charity that needs volunteers to help children build their reading skills and confidence.

While this isn’t an activity your hen party can do together as a group, it’s something that everyone can pledge to give a portion of their time to.

As a reading volunteer, you'll spend just one hour a week supporting a child with reading literacy skills.

The hour is split into two 30-minute online sessions.

This means that volunteering with Bookmark can fit around your schedule.

Just a few hours of reading support can make a huge difference to a child who is struggling at school.

PostPals

Post Pals is a volunteer-run charity who sends seriously ill children and their siblings cards, letters and little gifts.

All you need to do is head to the PostPals website and choose a child featured on the site.

Each profile includes their interests and stories, as well as a forwarding address.

Head to their page to find out how to support PostPals as part of your party.

Collect items

For time pressed hens who may not be able to commit to a number of hours volunteering, collecting essential items for a charity is a great way you can show your support.

From women's hygiene items and food bank stock to books, clothes and toys, you can collect items for charities actively seeking support in this way.

If you plan to do a collection, always contact the charity to find out what they need and if they are accepting physical donations.

In many cases, items should be new and unused, though this might not apply everywhere.

Here are some of our partner charities waiting for your support.

Smalls for All

Smalls for All is a Scottish charity which collects and distributes underwear to help women and children in Africa.

They also help charities in the UK that focus on alleviating poverty by providing women with underwear.

What to donate

  • New underwear for women and children in sizes for children aged 3-15 or ladies size 8-14 (preferably in black for ladies).

  • New or ‘gently worn’ bras which can be any size, including sports and nursing bras.

Find more information about how to donate items to Smalls for All here.

Make a cash donation

One way to support charities is through making a cash donation.

Charities rely on these to get the right products, facilities, people and equipment for the groups that they support.

Whatever you are able to give can make a huge difference to someone’s life.

You can build a donation amount into the hen party budget when you’re planning to make sure it’s covered.

Just remember to talk to everyone and be understanding of individual finances.

If you can’t commit your time to volunteering for Bookmark then you can make a donation instead.

Building a donation into your hen party budget is an easy way to help others when you’re celebrating.

Bloody Good Period

Bloody Good Period provides menstrual products to asylum seekers, refugees, and those who cannot afford them.

Bloody Good Period don't accept donations of physical products, due to quality control.

Instead, they ask for donations which get turned into delivering high quality products directly to the people that need them.

You can plan a donation as part of the hen party, or ask your hens to make a donation based on what they can afford. Fill in this form to send a cash donation.

VOW for Girls

VOW for Girls are taking a vow against child marriage and supporting the rights of young women accross the globe.

Join them by raising money and awareness to end the abusive practice of child marriage which affects the health, finances and freedoms of young women.

VOW also specifically reaches out to people getting married and wedding industry organisations to pledge their support, or make a vow.

Hens With Heart are proud to have pledged our support to end child marriage.
