If you’re having a hen party near the coast consider a beach clean up to volunteer for a few hours.

How can you help the Marine Conservation Society

Beachwatch is the Marine Conservation Society's national beach cleaning and litter survey programme where people all around the UK can care for their coastline.

You and your hen party can spend a few hours working in a group with other volunteers to pick up litter and clean up the beach local to your hen do. You’ll also record what you find at the beach to help MCS understand the environment more. Keep reading on this page to find out how you can take part.

Marine wildlife is under threat from litter in our seas, with hundreds of species accidentally eating or becoming entangled in, amongst other things, plastic and fishing line. Litter strewn beaches damage tourism so we all have a part to play in turning the tide on litter. You can join an existing event or organise your own and be part of the most influential fight against marine litter in the UK!

What The Marine Conservation Society Do

The Marine Conservation Society is the UK’s leading charity for the protection of our seas, shores and wildlife. For over thirty years MCS has been the voice for the sea for all the fascinating creatures that live beneath the waves, for our breath-taking coastal environment, for all those who make a sustainable living from the sea and for everyone who simply enjoys visiting the beach and our glorious coastline.

What can I expect from a beach clean?

  • This is a hands on day where your hens will be working together as a team and with other volunteers, picking and recording litter found on the beaches.

  • You’ll need to wear practical clothes and remember that the weather might not be perfect!

  • Start times & duration can vary based on the event

  • Bring your own refreshments for the day

How to organise this activity

Visit the MCS Beachwatch website and find a beach clean that works for the location and date of your hen party.

You’ll be put in touch with the organiser of the beach clean - please check with them that they can accommodate the number of people in your hen party.

If you can’t find a something that works or you have a big group you can organise your own beach clean.

If you need more advice, you can contact MCS by email: beachwatch@mcsuk.org
